Zywiec Porter

Another Polish Porter for the collection from our good friends at jevvyets.

This beer is a lovely colour, dark cola just short of totally black if you look at it in the light. The major quality it brings is longevity, in that it just seems to go on and on and on with the flavour. It's not overly complicated though either, starting with milk choc notes and blending gently toward imperial dark fruit flavours as it develops. The alcohol is definitely present, but not actually offensive as such.

Bit of a short review but it's all more or less in line with the baltic porter style.. pretty good but short of world changing. 7.0

Warka Strong Ale

Fozzie bear. There, I said it.

This beer however is not very muppetty at all, to its immediate detriment. Instead it's a clumsy brute of a beer, at once too sweet and too bitter after an ESB style caramel apple flavour profile in a finishing hops sort of sense. Alcohol at 7.5% comes through too strongly on the nose and the taste, it's sticky and quite difficult to drink cold or not.

I've had worse beers strictly in terms of just taste but the other elements really let this down. As such Warka gets an 'avoid' label, but no 'shit'. 2.5

Browar Amber Grand Imperial Porter

The very first Polish beer on the tracker. And a quite attractive looking one at that.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this fine land, particularly in the way of heavy stouts. But it pours with a nice sedate character, bit of alc on the nose, but also amber style malts.

Nice mouthfeel, tastes a bit like Stoke Dark but a higher quality drop, deeper coffee. Bit of vanilla aniseed here also, which perhaps helps hide that 8% ABV rather well indeed. It's a fine drop this and one I wouldn't be averse to picking up again at the price - recommended. 8.0
